TALK 1: Generative AI Deepfakes: Real-World Threats to Facial Biometric Authentication by Daniel Fitzmaurice
This research investigates the security risks posed by AI-generated deepfakes to facial biometric authentication systems. Through controlled experiments using open-source tools, the study demonstrates how deepfakes can bypass Apple Face ID and Android Face Unlock under realistic conditions, including a full multi-factor authentication (MFA) compromise escalating to Azure Active Directory. This research also evaluates the effectiveness of commercial forensic detection tools, revealing critical gaps in current defences. Findings underscore the need for adaptive liveness detection and integrated anti-spoofing measures to maintain trust in biometric authentication.
Presented at Cyber Research Ireland Conference 2025.
TALK 2: All your .ie are belong to us by Danny
The .ie domain registry contains over 300,000 domain names. The list of domain names isn’t publicly accessible. This talk explores a curiosity-driven attempt to discover all registered .ie domains, examining the scale of the challenge and the thinking behind different approaches,. The talk covers parsing Certificate Transparency logs and scraping common crawl in an effort to retrieve as many .ie domain names as possible.
