It aims to strengthen the overall cyber resilience of critical infrastructure across the EU by setting stricter security requirements, expanding the scope to more sectors, and introducing tougher enforcement measures. NIS2 applies to both “essential” and “important” entities—ranging from energy and transport to digital services and public administration—and holds top management accountable for compliance. It officially came into effect on October 18, 2024.
