Cyber Ireland Incoming Chairperson’s Address

Brian Honan, CEO BH Consulting & Cyber Ireland Chairperson

To the Members of Cyber Ireland,

I am deeply honored to step into the role of Chairman of Cyber Ireland at such an exciting and critical time for our industry. I believe that together we can build on Ireland’s rich history of promoting peace, security, and justice at both national and international levels, and strengthen Ireland’s position as a global leader in cybersecurity.

Before we look ahead, I want to take a moment to express my sincere thanks to the outgoing chair Pat Larkin. Over the past years Pat’s  hard work, leadership, and outstanding contribution have helped shape the Irish cybersecurity landscape into what it is today. Pat’s vision, dedication, and tireless efforts in guiding Cyber Ireland have created a lasting impact on the industry, and I know I have big shoes to fill as I take on this role. We all owe Pat a debt of thanks for his remarkable leadership

Ireland’s tradition of contributing to global peace, from the proud participation of the Irish Defence Forces in UN peacekeeping missions to our national and international political work in promoting international justice, reflects the values that underpin our approach to cybersecurity—protection, collaboration, and innovation. Just as we have worked to safeguard peace on our island and around the world, we now face the challenge of safeguarding the digital landscapes that connect us all.

Our nation’s success in attracting multinational companies has positioned Ireland as a key player in cybersecurity. These companies bring invaluable expertise, resources, and global networks that enhance our capabilities and provide a platform for collaboration. However, just as important is the innovative spirit of Ireland’s indigenous cybersecurity companies, which are at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies and solutions. Together, these sectors are driving Ireland’s cybersecurity industry forward.

A critical part of this ecosystem is our third-level institutes, which are incubators of talent and research excellence. Their role in developing highly skilled graduates and fostering innovation through world-class research is vital to meeting the growing demand for cybersecurity expertise. By strengthening ties between industry and academia, we can ensure that Ireland continues to be a source of pioneering cybersecurity solutions and talent.

I also want to highlight the importance of the support the Irish government can provide to our growing industry. Through strategic policies, investments, and partnerships, the government has the potential to create an environment where cybersecurity can thrive—enabling growth, innovation, and collaboration across public and private sectors alike.

In this spirit of collaboration, I am reminded of the old Irish concept of the Meitheal, where neighbors came together to help one another succeed. I see Cyber Ireland as our own Cyber-Meitheal—a place where the efforts of all sectors, from government and academia to multinational corporations and homegrown startups, come together to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. By promoting dialogue, sharing expertise, and fostering partnerships and collaboration, Cyber Ireland aims to be the bridge that connects all these players and enables us to collectively advance Ireland’s position as a global cybersecurity leader.

As Chair, I look forward to working with each of you as we continue to promote and develop Ireland’s cybersecurity industry. Together, with the spirit of Meitheal, we can ensure that Ireland remains at the forefront of cybersecurity innovation, collaboration, and success.

Thank you, and I am eager to begin this journey with all of you.
Best regards,
Brian Honan
