Cyber Ireland members were invited to attend the Cyber Research Conference Ireland 2024 on Monday, November 25th, at South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow. This full-day event, held in the Haughton Building on the Carlow Campus, brought together some of Ireland’s brightest minds in cybersecurity research alongside industry leaders for a day of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and discovery.
Cyber Ireland Industry Session: Bridging Academia and Industry for Real-World Impact
From 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, a dedicated industry session sponsored by Cyber Ireland brought academia and industry together in a focused forum for collaboration. Kicking off with a welcome address from Cyber Ireland, the session featured presentations from notable industry figures, including:

- John Barry (Intel Ireland): Discussing advancements in certifiable asymmetric cryptography and its role in securing hardware attestation protocols, a critical component for ensuring device integrity.

- Daniel Hayman (Centripetal Networks): Presenting a deep-dive analysis of threat actor groups like BlackBasta, with a focus on intelligence-driven threat actor analysis and the latest tactics used by ransomware groups.

- Lar Conroy (Security Risk Advisors): Attendees learned how to modernise your SOC.
This session concluded with a practical workshop, “How Industry Can Engage with HEIs for R&D,” led by SETU. Attendees learned about funding options and academic resources available to support R&D partnerships, with case studies showcasing successful industry-academic collaborations.
